Things are not looking good for Donald Trump, Jr. Even in a so-called “uncontested” divorce like the one his wife Vanessa filed for yesterday, odds in court are always with the person that files first, notifies the other party first, and generally gets their shit together first — and it looks like Vanessa beat Donnie to the punch on everything.
But now it turns out she thought of one more very important thing before the First Son did: Hiring a criminal defense attorney to assist with her divorce proceedings.
Now, why would Vanessa even consider hiring David Feureisen? The attorney is famous for overturning the murder conviction of a New York man who had gotten in a bar fight, gone to prison, and spent seven years behind bars as an admitted killer before Feureisen got him released on a technicality.
The answer is that she wouldn’t — unless she knows something that we don’t, or is nervous about something criminal upcoming. Fascinating, also, that her decision to hire this particular lawyer came just as Special Counsel Robert Mueller subpoenaed the Trump Organization’s documents pertaining to Russia, financial dealings, and a number of other topics. Don Jr. and his brother Eric have, since the inauguration of their father, been nominally the heads of the Trump Organization and therefore answerable to any subpoena that Mueller issues for the company paperwork.
Does Vanessa know a little more about her soon-to-be ex’s business dealings than even Mueller does so far? It could very well be that we’re about to find out. Vanessa and Donald have each said that their split, which will likely involve custody hearings for their five children and some amount of alimony, was “not acrimonious.”
Interviewed by the New York Post‘s “Page Six,” Manhattan Family Law expert Bonnie Rabin told the paper that the development is odd:
It’s a curious choice if it’s an amicable separation. If it’s an amicable situation, you wouldn’t be highlighting the criminal aspect.”
A curious choice, indeed.
