Amateur president Donald Trump has been schooled by German Chancellor Angela Merkel before and it looks like the former reality show star needs a stern talking to again. The Leader of the Free World issued a warning over the weekend, saying that Europe must take its fate into its own hands given that Great Britain is wrestling with Brexit and the United States now has Donald Trump as president. So, this morning Trump shot back in a tweet about NATO, something which he knows nothing about.
“We have a MASSIVE trade deficit with Germany, plus they pay FAR LESS than they should on NATO & military. Very bad for U.S. This will change,” Trump tweeted.

Proving that he’s stuck on stupid, Trump tweeted earlier this month that “vast sums of money to NATO & the United States must be paid more for the powerful, and very expensive, defense it provides to Germany!”

After that tweet, Germany’s defense minister countered Trump’s claim that Germany owes NATO “vast sums of money.”
Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement that “there is no debt account in NATO. To relate the 2% defense spending that we want to reach in the next decade solely to NATO is wrong. The defense spending also goes to UN-peace mission, into European missions and towards our contributions to the fight against ISIS terrorism.”
Twitter users cringed at Trump’s tweet.

@realDonaldTrump You’re going to turn our allies into enemies while you sleep with your sugar daddy Russia.

@realDonaldTrump Germany doesn’t use enough ALL CAPS. This will change

It’s as if Trump is proving Merkel’s point for her when she said Germany can no longer rely on the U.S. because the alliance is threatened by Trump and Brexit. “The times in which we can fully count on others are somewhat over,” she said.
Merkel’s comments followed Trump frustrating European diplomats by saying he needs more time to decide if the U.S. would continue backing the Paris climate deal.
