Donald Trump didn’t just f*ck up the entire G-7 Summit — even after leaving the meeting of world leaders, the President of the United States continued to attack America’s allies and undo all the progress that was made during the summit.
While America has come to expect the worst from Trump, his behavior at the summit was an entirely new level of incompetence. Someone close to the president, ‘Art of the Deal’ ghostwriter Tony Schwartz, was just interviewed by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota and gave some interesting insight into Trump’s behavior. Unfortunately, Schwartz’s assessment of what was going on with Trump was horrific and signals that the worst is yet to come.
Schwartz first reminded America that this behavior isn’t new for Trump and that the former reality tv star has previously destroyed his relationships with others whenever his ego gets the best of him:
His interest is almost entirely about how he is seen or how he thinks he’s seen. And therefore his perspective is a very… it’s wearing blinders. All he cares about right now, particularly in light of what happened at the G-7, is that he can restore in his own mind his sense of self. And what’s so fragile in Trump is his sense of self.”
Then, Schwartz got to the point as he highlighted Trump’s inability to listen to others or consider different points of view and constructive criticism:
I’m going to say it very bluntly: He’s mentally ill. This is a man — and I understand I’m not a psychiatrist, but he’s prima facie mentally ill. He has a personality disorder. That means on its face this is a man who is unstable, who doesn’t think clearly and has narrowed his frame by pushing out anybody who will disagree with him.”
When Camerota commented that Trump’s aides have insisted that Trump is mentally stable, Schwartz had the perfect response:
Alisyn, I love you, but that’s nonsense.”
Finally, someone wasn’t afraid to call it like it is. Unfortunately, this isn’t very comforting news while Trump’s North Korea summit is right around the corner.
