Donald Trump gave a whopper of an interview this Sunday and one of his most ridiculous assertions was that China stopped being a “currency manipulator” just because they are so afraid of him. (Go ahead and laugh, I’ll wait.)
Speaking to John Dickerson, host of Face The Nation, Trump claimed that China stopped manipulating currency when he came into office. “It’s not going down” anymore, Trump tried to explain. When Dickerson pointed out that China’s currency manipulation came to a stop long before Trump landed his orange derriere in the White House, Trump replied that this wasn’t “true to the extent that we’re talking about.”
Trump then said that he “was the one who got them to stop.”
“You were the one who got China to stop manipulating their currency?” Dickerson asked incredulously.
“I think so,” Trump replied. “During the campaign I talked about…”
“Even if they were doing it before?” Dickerson interjected.
“No, they were doing it before. I mean, there’s no question. They were absolute currency manipulators before.”
Being incapable of staying on topic, Trump then segued into North Korea and insisted that he is playing nice with China to get their help in dealing with Kim Jong Un. But, of course, Trump then whined that “the mainstream media never talks about” any of this.
“It’s just one of many things, John,” Trump added, desperate to get in one more dig at the media.
