While Donald Trump’s administration has never really had a “good” week, this previous one has been particularly awful for the White House, all thanks to Trump’s misguided trust in Rudy Giuliani, the newest member of his legal team. Giuliani has messed up Trump’s investigation and Stormy Daniels scandal so badly that Trump’s own professional liars are having an extremely tough time spinning this — and have honestly stopped trying.
Earlier today, Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s most dishonest mouthpiece, sat down for an interview with Face The Nation. Margaret Brennan started the interview with the White House counselor by bringing up Giuliani’s disastrous series of interviews and asking Conway why Giuliani was even allowed to go on television. Brennan asked, “Why has the president authorized him to speak like this?”
It seemed to be a question that Conway has been asking herself for several days, and she didn’t hesitate to throw Giuliani under the bus as she promoted herself as Trump’s professional PR “fixer.” She said:
Well the president sent me here today.”
Conway then continued to defend her boss against Giuliani’s contradicting statements about the $130,000 hush money payment to Stormy Daniels to hide the affair.
Brennan pressed Conway further about Giuliani:
In an interview last night on Fox News, Rudy Giuliani said that this payment to Stormy Daniels was in fact a campaign expenditure. You ran the campaign, is that what you would characterize it as?”
Conway didn’t even hold back in her response, mocking Giuliani’s moronic comments and saying “I don’t know why anyone would say that.”
I don’t know why anyone would say that. I would not characterize it that way. The president himself characterized it as not a campaign expenditure. All I can tell is that, as the campaign manager for the winning part of the campaign, this never crossed my desk.”
Conway continued to throw shade at Giuliani later in the interview when Brennan asked her why Giuliani was speaking about the release of U.S. prisoners from North Korea even though he knew nothing about when this would happen. Conway flat-out said that Giuliani was not authorized to talk about it.
Once again, the in-fighting and dysfunction in the Trump administration threaten any remaining stability. You can watch the interview below:
