Donald Trump’s “presidency” has been horrifying. We are led by a man who is openly bigoted in too many directions to mention, and he also happens to be someone who has no regard for the rule of law to boot. Trump is overtly frustrated with the idea that he, as president can be investigated and does not have the power to control that investigation. He admitted to firing now-former FBI Director James Comey over the Russia investigation and is openly feuding with his handpicked Attorney General over his recusal from that same investigation.
Further, Trump has expressed a desire to have control of traditionally independent government entities, such as the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In other words, Trump does not want to be President. He wants to be a king.
TIME Magazine’s newest cover has Trump looking in the mirror, and he is wearing a crown, just like a king. The tagline reads, “King Me.” Here is that terrifying image:

The thing is, we have a system of government that has three deliberately co-equal branches of government. We do not do monarchies in the United States of America, no matter how much Trump views himself as a king. He is not, but the thing is, due to his vision of himself as an absolute ruler with absolute power, we are headed down a very dangerous road under Trump’s authoritarian leadership.
Trump continuously chips away at our institutions, at the free press, at the very truth itself. He is sowing distrust in the judiciary and he is bullying the GOP Congress. He is demonizing “the other” — LGBTQ people, racial and religious minorities, you name it — and sowing fear and discord in his base of so-called “real Americans.”
Yes, TIME got it right. Trump thinks he is king, and if we don’t wake up and remove him, he might become just that, regardless of what title he actually holds. That should terrify the hell out of every American, regardless of political affiliation.
