As if we couldn’t love Michelle Obama anymore than we already do, the First Lady has joined Saturday Night Live’s Jay Pharoah in this epic video to encourage young people to GO TO COLLEGE.
Education is common issue taken on by the First Ladies of the United States. Throughout modern history the President’s wife has often been used as a mouthpiece for young people in our country. However, none have tackled it in such a relatable and “cool” fashion as our current FLOTUS.
Michelle Obama is quoted saying:
“I believe that education is the single-most important civil rights issue that we face today. Because in the end, if we really want to solve issues like mass incarceration, poverty, racial profiling, voting rights, and the kinds of challenges that shocked so many of us over the past year, then we simply cannot afford to lose out on the potential of even one young person. We cannot allow even one more young person to fall through the cracks.”
The initiative is described on the Whitehouse website as:
[An] effort to inspire every student in America to take charge of their future by completing their education past high school, whether at a professional training program, a community college, or a four-year college or university.
Fewer than 30 percent of high school aged kids in the lower quarter of incomes will even enroll in college and less than half of those who do enroll will graduate. That is a startling statistic that impacts the future of our country.
With education will come change. The First Lady is doing her part to provide resources and influence young people.
