No matter how bad the Trump administration is for America, you can’t deny how good it’s been for Saturday Night Live.
From Alec Baldwin’s legendary impression of the president himself to the landmark portrayals of Jeff Sessions, Mike Pence, and any number of other key players in this White House, the cast of the weekend sketch show has been milking Trump and his Cabinet for all they’re worth.
And aside from Baldwin, who may actually have erased any prior memories Americans had of his acting with his spot-on impersonation of the Babyhands-in-Chief, maybe no member of the SNL cast has more fun with political figures than Kate McKinnon, who cut her teeth on politics jokes playing Hillary Clinton.
Now she’s back as long-suffering moron Betsy DeVos, the Education Secretary who’s so out of her league in dealing with public education that she managed to make an absolute fool of herself on 60 Minutes in an unforgettable interview that left America scratching its collective head over just what the hell she thinks she’s doing in that job.
It was that exact CBS featurette that SNL skewered on their St. Patrick’s Day broadcast. In the always funny “Weekend Update” segment of the show, “Betsy” showed up to clarify just what the hell she was talking about during the 60 Minutes broadcast, as well as perhaps shed some light on just why she sounds like such an idiot every time a camera is pointed at her face:
Well, I think that the problem is that the words that were coming out of my mouth were bad, and that is because they came from my brain.”
