It seems that Americans have really lowered their expectations of what a president should be. Over the last year and a half, we’ve been so conditioned to accept a below-mediocre standard that anytime Donald Trump doesn’t completely f*ck up, he gets showered with praise.
Trump didn’t do well at the North Korea Summit with dictator Kim Jong Un, but he didn’t launch us into nuclear war (yet), either. Americans seem so relieved that Trump didn’t completely blow it with Kim that they’re actually happier with him, even though he totally ruined things with our allies during the G-7 Summit days before.
According to The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll, Trump’s approval rating has seen an increase after the North Korea Summit. Now, 49 percent of U.S. voters are approving of his job performance, tied with a 49 percent disapproval rating. While 39 percent still strongly disapprove, Trump got a small bump to 35 percent from those who strongly approve. His approval index is now -4, when it was -8 when Trump started his trip in Singapore.
No one should be impressed by Trump’s performance with Kim. He looked like a clown and we have yet to see the results of their meeting.
Still, Trump must know that his numbers spiked because the president was up early this morning, attacking celebrities who dared to criticize him and bragging about his accomplishments. Robert De Niro, who had recently attacked Trump in a speech, was Trump’s target today. Trump wrote:
Robert De Niro, a very Low IQ individual, has received too many shots to the head by real boxers in movies. I watched him last night and truly believe he may be ‘punch-drunk.’ I guess he doesn’t……realize the economy is the best it’s ever been with employment being at an all time high, and many companies pouring back into our country. Wake up Punchy!”
A man who speaks like this hardly deserves to have half of U.S. voters approving of him.
