Donald Trump really shouldn’t have fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe days before he was set to retire — because McCabe is now ready to strike back with a vengeance.
Trump and the Republican Party did everything they could to smear McCabe’s reputation, but he’s not turning the other cheek like they hoped. Last night, two Republican congressmen — Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Mark Meadows (R-NC) — went on Fox News to further damage McCabe’s legacy. The two GOPers tried to claim that the FBI’s disciplinary office found evidence that McCabe had lied to then-Director James Comey about leaking info to the media — which isn’t true at all.
After that ridiculous lie aired, McCabe came forward via his attorney, Michael Bromwich, to blow up the GOP’s plans. In response to the Fox News segment, Bromwich told The Washington Post that McCabe has evidence in his emails that “clearly show that Mr. McCabe advised Director Comey that he was working with colleagues at the FBI to correct inaccuracies before the stories were published, and that they remained in contact through the weekend while the interactions with the reporter continued.” Yet another Republican lie has crumbled in their faces.
Bromwich also accused the GOP of “attempting to create a false narrative” about why Trump had fired McCabe. Bromwich said:
We deeply regret being compelled to respond to this selective leaking with any comment at all. Nevertheless, one thing is clear: Mr. McCabe never misled Director Comey. Director Comey’s memory of these interactions was equivocal and speculative, while Mr. McCabe’s recollection is clear, unequivocal and supported by documentary evidence.”
Finding out that the Republican Party has lied about something is hardly breaking news at this point — especially because they helped the most dishonest person in the world become president. However, this certainly won’t help the GOP during midterm elections, as Americans trust the country’s intelligence agencies far more than the Trump administration and conservative politicians now.
